Executive Branch

Brittany McGruder
President

As a senior majoring in Economics and Spanish, I have been very active on this campus throughout my time here. I have served at the Treasurer, ESL Coordinator, and President of the UTM Spanish Club, and as the Treasurer, Fundraising Chair, and Vice-President of Phi Chi Theta. I am also a proud sister of Alpha Delta Pi and a member of various campus student organizations. I have been very involved with SGA as a Senator-at-Large, Senator of the College of Business and Public Affairs, and Communications Committee Chair. I also serve as the voting Student Trustee on the University Of Tennessee Board Of Trustees, which has given me great insight into the inner workings of not only our university, but the system we belong to as well.

I am very proud and honored to be serving as your Student Body President. The University of Tennessee at Martin is already an excellent university, but I believe we are capable of much more. Students do have a voice, which can be an extremely powerful voice. It is my vision that we can stand together to achieve common goals in order to better our university. I believe it’s time to take action so that we may have a positive impact on our campus and in our world.

Throughout this school year, if there is ever anything at all I can do for you, please do not hesitate to call at extension 7789 or stop by the Student Government Association office located in room 214 of the Boling University Center. Have a great year! Let’s Go Skyhawks!!!

Eric Lipford
Vice President

I am a Senior Psychology major and am more specifically interested in treating children who have been diagnosed with Autism. My first year at UTM, I majored in music where I was actively involved in the music department. After only one year in school, I spent three years out of college working in an elementary school near my hometown of Alamo, TN. By accepting a job as a personal assistant to a child who had Autism, and getting to see first-hand the need for behavior therapies with children who have this common disorder, I decided to return to UTM to major in Psychology. Since my return I have been inducted into the National Honor Society for Psychology, Psi Chi. As a member of the Psychology Club, I have assisted with Brain Awareness Week and different fund-raisers. I am currently interested in and conducting research on campus concerning the effects of anxiety inducing music during test taking.
Initially, my involvement with the Student Government Association did not start conventionally. I was appointed in mid-September by past President James Orr, to a Student Senate seat in the college of Education and Behavior Sciences. With Student Government being new to me, I dove in to the procedures and tried learning as much as I could about this Association during my first year as a Senator. After winning in the 07’-08’ elections for a second year in my Student Senate seat, I also interviewed to become the Chair for the Campus Observations Committee.
For the past year, as Chair for the Campus Observations committee, I have gained the confidence and experience needed for serving the student body here at UTM as their Vice President. I look forward to a year full of problem solving and student-minded initiatives.
Feel free to contact me with any issues or concerns you have at sga2@utm.edu.

Rebecca Weaver
Secretary General

My name is Rebecca Weaver. I am a Junior Elementary Education (k-6) major. I am very excited to have been elected the Secretary General for the Student Government Association. I have been involved in SGA for the past two years serving on Freshman Council and also as a Senator for the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. This past year I also served as the Multicultural Affairs Committee Chair where I had the opportunity to plan Diversity week. I have enjoyed my experience working with SGA, and I am looking forward to working with a new group of students this year. Along with SGA I am also involved in the Student Tennessee Education Association, M, and PEP. I am also currently serving as one of two Youth Directors on the Tennessee 4-H Foundation Board of Directors. I am excited to be able to serve the Student Body as your Secretary General, and I hope that we will be able to better UT Martin for years to come.
